Background

Education is intended to prepare a child for the future, but the curriculums in our Indian schools do not entirely align with the requirements of the real world. Students in the Indian educational system are encouraged to solve complex math problems and memorize all the dates of all the important events, but none of them are taught what debit and credit cards are, about how to save money effectively, budget efficiently, and invest for long term gains. Students are also taught little about how to counter the challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable development to grow in a myriad of different areas. Such gaps in our educational foundations are minimizing the ability of our youth to secure and promote sustainable futures for themselves, and their communities.

There is an urgent need for such knowledge among students from underserved communities who may lack access to it. Back to Basics chooses to apply pressure to this lacuna by going back to the basics and teaching essential lessons on financial, health, and sustainability.
